NASA is building a nuclear rocket that could send humans to Mars

revealed Tuesday it is building a nuclear-powered rocket that could send humans to much faster than the traditional craft - it currently takes seven months to reach the Red Planet.

The American space agency partnered with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) on the Demonstration Rocket for Agile Cislunar Operations (DRACO) program that will be tested in 2027.

(NTR) offers a high thrust-to-weight ratio of around 10,000 times greater than electric propulsion and two-to-five times greater efficiency than in-space chemical propulsion.
