Three years ago, Navy captain Brett Crozier became an early martyr of the pandemic when he was relieved of command for raising concern about how quickly COVID was spreading through his ship, the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Now, despite his retaliatory ouster and after grueling global shutdowns, the retired sailor has resurfaced to promote a memoir about his career and to speak publicly for the first time about his firing. On March 30 2020, after eight of the 5,000 sailors onboard the Roosevelt had to be hospitalized with severe COVID symptoms, Crozier, the Commanding Officer, begged Navy top brass to evacuate the entire ship, writing in an alarming email: 'There will be losses.'
