A brand new species of pinkish, eyeless cavefish has been discovered swimming in 's subterranean rivers, and it could help solve how cave creatures evolve.
Ecologists and conservationists identified their first sample of the new pink cave fish in 2019, but it's taken years worth of field surveys deep in the Wujiang River System's underground streams to catch enough of the fish to prove that it is a new species.
While some of the seven specimens of the new fish are perfectly, eerily, eyeless — others, the team said, have black 'highly reduced eyes, partially covered with skin.'
