Pizzerias in have blasted 'unfunded' new rules to slash carbon emissions by 75 per cent that could see wood and coal-fired ovens being scrapped. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) drafted the new rules which could require pizzerias with ovens installed before May 2016 to buy expensive emission-control devices. The owner of one joint in Brooklyn explained he already installed a 'scrubbers' device that filters the smoke but this could cost restaurants $20,000.
