The Department of Energy has defended its plan to introduce new requirements for ceiling fans, insisting that they would save households energy after claimed the rules would put manufacturers out of business.Under the new proposal,The Energy Department believes ceiling fans which comply with the new rules would save households about $39 over their lifespan - a saving of 40 percent - and cost customers around $10 more for each fan.
