Paris 2024 chiefs are confident that next summer's will pass off peacefully despite the threat of terrorism and the recent riots in France.A report last month by a private security firm stated that the terrorism threat level for Paris remained 'severe'. It comes almost eight years after the November 13 attacks that killed at least 130 people in the city, with the Stade de France – which will host the athletics next summer - one of the places targeted.More recently, violent protests broke out across the country after French-Algerian 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk was shot dead by police at a traffic stop near the capital. The riots lasted for several days, at the end of June and start of July, and led to damage of an aquatics centre set to be used as a training site during the Olympics.
