Former acting Speaker Patrick McHenry will not seek re-election joining 32 of his House colleagues who have said they will resign or retire in this tumultuous congressional term. 'I will be retiring from at the end of my current term. This is not a decision I come to lightly, but I believe there is a season for everything and — for me — this season has come to an end,' McHenry said in a statement. The Republican will close out nearly 20 years in Congress at the end of his term, rising through the ranks to chair the Financial Services Committee and become a close ally of former Speaker .
