Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of fraudulent medical company Theranos, has been denied a new trial after she was found guilty of deceiving investors as her judge says it is unlikely to result in an acquittal. Holmes, who is pregnant with her second child, faces up to 20 years in prison along with fines after she was on four counts of criminal fraud when she misled investors about the effectiveness of her blood-testing technology. U.S. District Judge Edward Davila said Monday that Holmes' did not introduce sufficient new evidence or prove there was governmental misconduct, and her sentencing will go forward on November 18.
