Sales at US retailers rose 0.7 percent in July - the highest increase in six months - helped by a boost in purchases on Amazon Prime Day. Americans also increased their purchases at clothing stores, grocery stores and at bars and restaurants, signaling how consumer spending can still help power the economy. The rise in retail sales to a collective $696.4 billion was better than expected and followed a revised 0.3 percent gain in June, according to the US Commerce Department.
