Texans who buy an electric vehicle will have to pay $400 to register their car - eight times the fee paid by gas motorists - under a new policy.Residents who already own an EV will also have to pay a $200 registration fee under the regulation which comes into effect on September 1. The measure, which is expected to bring in about $38 million in revenue, is being imposed to ensure EV drivers contribute to highway expenses which the state typically pays for through fuel tax.
