The Seahawks routed the Colts on Sunday Night Football at CenturyLink Field, 46-18, behind impressive showings from the offense and the defense. What? A well-rounded game from the Hawks? For the first time in 2017, yes.
It didn’t start so smoothly, though. The Colts entered the half with a 15-10 lead and on pace to match the equally bad performances from defense that marred the first three weeks of Seattle’s season. Russell Wilson’s first two targets of Jimmy Graham resulted in his two interceptions in an otherwise solid game. Seattle hadn’t yet quite established its running game. It was the same old, same old, apparently.
hen they flipped the switch.
This game went from unwatchable to lol really fast
It took 14 quarters, but the @Seahawks as we’ve come to know them have finally arrived in 2017.
The Seahawks offense is like Sleeping Beauty. We just have to make out with mediocrity for several quarters before she wakes up.
The Seahawks outgained Indianapolis 337-32 in the second half. They set a franchise record with 36 points after the half — and the 36-3 second-half margin was also the biggest in franchise history, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
And then there was this …
ESPN Stats & Info ✔@ESPNStatsInfo
The Seahawks have scored 49 PTS & gained 559 YDS in the 2nd half of their last 2 games.
They scored 17 PTS & had 267 YDS in the 1st halves.
It wasn’t all good news for the Seahawks, though. Already with a big lead late, Seattle handed off to Chris Carson, whose left leg got trampled and later put in an air cast while he was carted off the field.
Collinsworth just groaned at the Carson injury. #SEAvsIND
ohhhh god, that's a badly broken leg
Man...
But after Carson left (and even before), J.D. McKissic stepped up. Largely filling in for C.J. Prosise’s third-down back role, McKissic ran for a touchdown and hauled in another. Eddie Lacy finished the game with 54 yards — 10 times his season total entering the game — to lead the team in rushing.
Only bummer about this game is Carson. But McKissic stepped up to the plate big time and Lacy is starting to show signs of life. #Seahawks
On top of that, Russell Wilson wasn’t sacked until the second half and only took three all game.
Don't look now, but the offensive line looks competent.
Graham even partially made up for the two previous passes off his hands that went for interceptions with an over-the-shoulder catch on a dime from Wilson. He finished with 61 yards on four catches.
jimmy graham read all of your angry tweets and would like to thank you for the added motivation
It’s fun to look back on reaction from the first half in games like this when Seattle pulls away late, including one particularly vivid one from a local TV reporter.
Watching this @Seahawks offense is like getting waterboarded with rancid milk.
Seahawks offense has zero rhythm. Disjointed, weird sequencing, zero identity, no execution. It really sucks
the seahawks outscored the colts 36-3 in the second half so i guess i should say sorry about this https://twitter.com/DannyBKelly/status/914667796570677248 …
With the convincing win, apparently setting the Seahawks back on course, it sets up a key matchup in Los Angeles next week against a Rams team that just knocked off the Cowboys in Dallas.
High-quality marquee Week 5 game in @lacoliseum next week between @Seahawks & @RamsNFL serves as good test for LA appetite for the NFL.
