Shore towns with the most DWI arrests

Summertime at the Shore means spending time with friends and family, enjoying the beach and having fun in the ocean, but it can also mean a drink or two — or more. Unfortunately, some people make the wrong decision and get behind the wheel, resulting in being arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI).

Police departments along the Shore are out and about, looking for drivers who appear to be impaired to make sure they stay off of the road.

We've ranked all the towns along the Shore from least to most DWI arrests made, based on the square mileage of the town. The data was obtained through the New Jersey Municipal Court statistics from the period of July 2016 to June 2017. The statistics for each town include arrests made by both local and state police.

44. Cape May Point

Cape May Point did not record a single DWI incidents. Granted, during the July 2015 to June 2016 reporting period, there was only one reported incident at the southern vacation locale.

43. Barnegat Light

The Ocean County shore town had one DWI arrest, the same amount as the July 2015 to June 2016 reporting period.

42. Berkeley Township

Berkeley Township police arrested 68 people from July 2016 to June 2017, as opposed to 99 arrests the previous year.

41. Upper Township

Upper Township saw a 9 percent increase in DWI arrests year-over-year. The most recent report shows the township arrested 87 people, compared to 80 the previous year.
