Al-Shabaab, the Somali branch of al Qaeda, are one of the most powerful insurgency groups in the world, and the US have been helping the military battle against them for some 16 years. The US's campaign has been littered with setbacks for years. However, breakthroughs in the last few months have made the an optimistic spot in the fight on terror.
