The film paints a deeply disturbing picture. A dark-skinned man stares menacingly and licks a huge knife. Flames explode out of burning cars on an urban street. Shrieking young rioters, their heads covered by hoodies, kick in a shop window. An alarming soundtrack thunders as a solemn male voice asks: ‘Do you want this to happen in . . . to stop being masters of your own country?’The short clip championing stronger border controls could easily have been the work of racist British nationalists in the 1980s. Yet it was released on social media by the mainstream political party that has governed Poland for eight years, as it announced the next general election on October 15.
