A&M has agreed to pay a former editor $1million after a botched attempt to hire her to direct its journalism school - during which she faced backlash over her past work promoting diversity.Awarded to Kathleen McElroy Thursday, the settlement was accompanied with an apology - in which school officials admitted mistakes were made during [McElroy's] hiring process' this past June.A conservative-led charge on campus fueled that month's hysteria, during which many repeatedly voiced concerns about McElroy’s experience in diversity, equity and inclusion - to the point where the situation soon came under staffers' radar.
