Data shows those coveted low-stress jobs exist, and many come with a decent paycheck. Last week, we ranked the highest stress, lowest paying jobs in New Jersey. Now we're taking a look at the sunnier side.
The Occupational Information Network, an online database developed under the sponsorship of U.S. Labor Department, maintains a detailed database of job descriptions, skills and tasks required for each job category. For example, some jobs require the ability to stay upright, while others require programming skills.
One metric, "stress tolerance," measures how stressful a job is on a scale of 1 to 100, with 100 being the worst — like hair-pulling, grouch-inducing, stay-away-from-them-on-Monday levels. The score takes into account the capacity of a person to "accept criticism and deal calmly and effectively in high-stress situations."
The median stress level for jobs in New Jersey is 75, and all of these jobs score well below that, with the highest level on this list topping out at 61.
