Foley Legacy Foundation shows an average of 34 US nationals were wrongfully detained by foreign governments each year from 2012 to 2022 — a 580 percent increase on the prior decade.The foundation, which pushes for the release of those held by foreign governments and armed groups, found that at least 19 countries wrongfully caged Americans in 2022, mostly global adversaries of the US.
