In April, the United States sanctioned three Nicaraguan judges for their role in stripping more than 300 political dissidents of their citizenship and leaving many of them stateless.“The United States is taking further action to hold accountable perpetrators of the Nicaraguan regime’s repressive actions,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a press statement.Nicaragua’s government, led by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, had been criticised by the United Nations and human rights groups like Amnesty International for using the judiciary to target political opponents.
