President introduced 's headline address with a tribute to his longtime friend as the 'toughest, most resilient human being' where he choked back emotion.

After White agreed to speak just before Trump, the ex-president texted him and thanked him. He apologized for the fact that he would have to cut out early on a family trip.

'Think of it as the biggest fight that you ever had. A fight for our country and even the world. I only wish you did not have to interrupt your family trip but I hope they understand, they love you, and they know how important this is,' Trump had said, according to White.
