George W Bush made preparations to launch nuclear weapons after the deadly 9/11 terror attacks, a former British defence chief has revealed.
Admiral Lord Alan West, a key figure in charge of Britain's nuclear response at the time, revealed that the Bush administration warned the UK it was moving to 'immediate readiness for nuclear weapon release'.
But Lord West, who would go on to coordinate Britain's naval response in the North Arabian Sea and Afghanistan to Al-Qaeda's attacks, the deadliest in America's history, said he ordered troops to 'do nothing' amid the flared tensions.
