Venezuela has released two American prisoners in a sign of thawing relations with the US after President Joe Biden sent an envoy to the socialist South American country.
The U.S. citizens were released by Venezuela on Tuesday - one of them a member of the 'Citgo Six' group of imprisoned oil executives. The Citgo Six are a half dozen American oil executives held for three years in Venezuela who were found guilty of corruption charges and sentenced to between eight and 13 years in prison.
Gustavo Cardenas, one of those six, was detained in 2017. Cardenas was the former Vice President of Strategic Shareholder Relations, Government and Public Affairs for the oil company.
