Thomas Crooks, 20, climbed to the roof of a building roughly 140 yards away from the stage of a Trump rally in Butler, , on July 13 before opening fire, shooting the former president and others, leaving one dead.

The tragedy has thrust Cheatle into the hot seat over how such an oversight, leading to the near-death of a former president and current presidential candidate, could happen under her watch.
