White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesday that she had tested positive for COVID-19, forcing her to miss President Biden’s upcoming trip to Belgium and Poland to rally US allies against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Psaki released a statement confirming her positive test result, which will stoke health fears for the 79-year-old president, as a room of 49 seated and largely unmasked journalists waited for her to host a daily press briefing with Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
“Today, in preparation for travel to Europe, I took a PCR test this morning. That test came back positive, which means I will be adhering to CDC guidance and no longer be traveling on the President’s trip to Europe,” Psaki said.
