A new film by Jonathan Glazer explores the story of an Auschwitz commandant's time in Nazi-occupied with his family, including the picnics they enjoyed at the local river. The Zone of Interest is based on the real life story of Rudolf Höss, who along with his wife and five children lived just outside the walls of the concentration camp where more than one million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. The Oscar-nominated movie also takes loose inspiration from the 2014 novel of the same name by acclaimed British author Martin Amis, who died last year.
