Much has been made about America's growing waistline but new official figures highlight a lesser-known issue: men and women in the US are shrinking.Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention () shows that since around 2000, women have shrunk by nearly half an inch on average, while men are down about a tenth of an inch.The 'great shrinkage' appeared to begin with children born in the 1980s — around the same time obesity started to rise and fast food and highly-processed food became more popular.
