Mexican cartel member aimed AK-47 at Texas DPS helicopter near border

A Department of Public Safety helicopter was patrolling the southern border when a suspected drug cartel member aimed an AK-47 at the aircraft, as seen in newly released dramatic video.

The incident took place on Wednesday as the DPS helicopter was flying in the vicinity of the Rio Grande in Starr County, Texas.

Footage recorded by the helicopter shows a man standing next to a red SUV on the Mexican side of the border. Moments later, someone on the ground appears to aim an AK-47 at the DPS helicopter, prompting the pilot to veer off to avoid getting struck by gunfire.
