The banned performance-enhancing drug at the heart of the figure skating doping scandal unfolding at the 2022 Winter was routinely administered to Russian athletes during the height of that nation's state-sponsored doping years, the can reveal.
Grigory Rodchenkov, the Moscow laboratory boss whose testimony led to the exposure of the Russian doping scandal, has said he covered up positive drug tests by Russian athletes for the same drug, trimetazidine, in the lead-up to the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, when topped the medals table.
It has officially been confirmed in the past 48 hours that 15-year-old Kamila Valieva tested positive for trimetazidine in December.
